A LITTLE FURTHER OUT

Storm outside

The same sheltered window, with weather gathering somewhere beyond the rooftops.

Storm outside is meant to feel a little broader and less even than the rain scene. The sky darkens, the rain picks up, and every so often a brief flash lifts the edges of the city into view. It is a quiet storm viewed from indoors, rather than a close-up of hard weather.

The scene is available from the Keepsakes shop in the main experience. Coins accrue slowly while a scene is playing in a visible tab. If you have not unlocked Storm outside yet, the listening room opens the shop for you. Once unlocked, you can switch back to the original rain whenever you like.

Make the sound fit the room

Rain, distant thunder, and night air each have their own slider. The thunder layer is a low, steady synthesized tone in this early version, rather than recorded thunder. It is intentionally restrained, but it does not yet reproduce the changing roll and decay of a real storm; that is one of the details to improve as the scene develops.

You can bring the thunder down to zero and keep only the rain, or mute the whole mix and use the moving scene in silence. The audio is generated by the browser after you press play; no audio recording is fetched.

Why keep two kinds of rain?

They are useful for different moods. The first window stays even and close. The storm scene changes more often, with a few brighter moments against a darker sky. If you want a steady backdrop while reading, start with rain. If you want the room to feel more like a night in bad weather, try the storm.

Try Storm outside in the listening room or read more about rain on the window.
