THE FIRST WINDOW

Rain on the window

A familiar kind of weather, seen from somewhere warm and still.

There is a small comfort in watching rain from indoors. The street goes soft at the edges; lights stretch and blur; for a while, there is nothing to do but listen. Dimlit’s rain scene is built around that pause.

Listen to rain on the window and press play when you are ready. The sound begins only after you ask for it. Rain, low night air, and the other mixer channels can be adjusted separately or muted altogether.

Rain on glass, from a few feet away

Rain does not move across a window as one uniform sheet. Fine streaks slide quickly in the distance, while heavier drops cling to the glass, gather, and follow slow, uneven paths downward. The scene uses separate layers for those movements: faint rain beyond the pane, small wet traces on the surface, and round beads that catch the light as they descend.

The city is deliberately indistinct. It is there to give the drops something to pass in front of, not to compete with them. The scene is drawn live on a canvas, so there is no looped video to download and no recorded rain track playing underneath it.

Finding a comfortable level

Try the rain slider first, then bring the night air up just enough to give it a little space. If you are reading, you may prefer the rain on its own. If you are winding down, a lower level can sit further in the background. There is no preset that works for everyone; the mixer is there so you can listen for yourself.

Your chosen mix stays in this browser. Dimlit does not ask you to make an account to use it. If you would rather sit in the scene without sound, the picture runs on its own too.

The companion scene, Storm outside, keeps the same window and lets occasional distant flashes change the room for a moment.
